Transcript: What surgical procedure do you recommend first?
For the younger and healthier patients, I generally recommend microvascular decompression as the first line therapy for trigeminal neuralgia. While it is an invasive procedure it carries with it the highest rate of success and the longest durability. Therefore if patients are in good health and seeking a potential cure for the rest of their life, microvascular decompression offers them the greatest hope of being pain-free forever.
