Transcript: Is it time to have surgery?
Many times my patients ask me “Is it time to have surgery? Am I bad enough off to warrant surgery at this point?” I always tell them that that’s not my decision to make, it’s theirs. It’s a matter of their quality of life and are they able to do those things that they want to do. There’s no magic amount of pain or number of medications to have tried or years to have suffered from the disease. It’s really when the patient can no longer tolerate their symptoms and lead the life that they want to lead. And whether that occurs after suffering from trigeminal neuralgia for six months or six years is not important. What’s important is that the patient can find the relief that they are seeking and go on and continue to lead a happy and productive life.
