Transcript: Why see a neurologist
For facial pain patients, I in general recommend that you see medical neurologists to administer your care for your facial pain. This allows you to first of all at least get the neuro-imaging done to make sure there are no abnormalities such as a vascular loop, multiple sclerosis and other issues which may be causing your facial pain syndrome which may demand surgical type therapies.
Secondarily, especially with the newer medications, especially the newer seizure medications, your neurologist is probably the person most comfortable with using those doses particularly at the high doses that may be required to treat especially atypical facial pain syndromes. This provides you the best overall central core of care with a neurologist perhaps supplemented by a neurosurgeon depending on your neuro-imaging results.
