Transcript:  Should trigeminal neuralgia and trigeminal neuropathic pain patients get the shingles vaccine?

In my opinion, it’s in the best interest of patients who have facial pain and atypical facial pain syndromes to get the vaccination for shingles.  Patients who have these syndromes generally are in an age group where this infection is very common and it would be in their best interest for their overall health reasons.  The possibility of this infection and others being associated with the development of facial pain syndromes suggest there may be an additional benefit.  The safety profile of the vaccination has been well-established so I think there are a variety of reasons for such folks to get the vaccination.
