Transcript: Recovery from a glycerol rhizotomy
Patients who have glycerol actually have a very fast recovery. One of the indications for glycerol is if you’re looking for a destructive procedure not microvascular decompression and you’re looking for a quick response, glycerol is among them. That’s the biggest difference between glycerol and radiofrequency.
As I mentioned earlier, they do go home the same day and the recovery’s fast. Usually if I’ve done a patient on Thursday, I tell them on Monday you can go back to work. They will usually take a day off or so. So if the procedure is done Thursday, Friday they are home and by Saturday they are ready to move along.
We have not seen patients with glycerol with any major headaches or infection. If you’ve taken extreme precaution having given the appropriate antibiotics at the time of treatment, the recovery is very fast.
And the good thing about glycerol also is that it has a quick response. Unlike Gamma Knife procedures which we do also, do a great number, the biggest difference is with glycerol (Oops! Meant to “Gamma Knife”) you might see the effect within the first three weeks or sometimes the next day.
