Transcript: Implants, root canals, crowns & bridges
The thought about whether implants should be used for people who have neuropathic pain such as trigeminal neuralgia is not very well researched and therefore it’s not clear. Typically, the way we think of it is the less nerve injuries the better, the less chance at making the pain worse. So if you’re looking at whether this should be implant placement versus a root canal per tooth and then building a crown on both of them, that’s kind of equivocal at this point in time.
The idea of should you have an implant versus a bridge from an expert opinion point of view, I would say I would rather see a patient have a bridge because I would like to see less nerve injury occurring in that patient so therefore decreasing the risk of having other complications down the road.
