Transcript: Dental community research on neuropathic pain
From a research perspective within the dental community, there’s several things that are going on but pretty much focuses on diagnosis. It’s a small group of people world-wide that are focusing on this issue. And what they’re most interested in is being able to diagnose what is neuropathic orofacial pain such as neuropathic tooth pain or trigeminal neuralgia versus what is not neuropathic pain such as burning mouth syndrome type pain, TMD pain or tooth pain such as a cracked tooth or pulpitis. The biggest thing there is where we can tell the difference between what is neuropathic and what isn’t, then we can move into doing more research that can better define what’s going on and better come up with outcomes and treatments that can help people.
