Transcript:  University of Minnesota’s functional MRI brain imaging research

One of the things that I’m looking at from a research perspective at the University of Minnesota is discovering how people with trigeminal neuralgia, how their brains may be working differently than in people that don’t have trigeminal in their brains.  Specifically, animal research is suggesting that the brains work differently but we don’t really know how that works in humans.  I have the luxury of being at University of Minnesota which has pioneered functional imaging of the brain and I’ve got a pilot grant to be able to start looking at some of these things and seeing if we can tell differences in parts of people’s brains so that we can then potentially in the future find some of the brain targets so we can intervene and treat people with type of pain better than we currently can.
