Anticonvulsants

Anticonvulsants are thought to work by changing transmission of nerve impulses.  Some common side effects are drowsiness, dizziness, and decreased mental alertness— especially when first started or when dosage is raised.

See Medication Treatment Options for Trigeminal Neuralgia chart for specific details on medications used to treat trigeminal neuralgia.
