Medications
There is no way to know which medication and dosage will work best for an individual because response to medication and to any of the other therapies varies from person to person. There often is no substitute for just trying different medications and dosages to see what the response is.
When taking medications, do not increase medication dosage without talking with your practitioner. Also, do not stop taking these medications unless directed to do so by your practitioner.
Because interactions are possible (some drug combinations might increase the effect of the medications, while others might decrease the action of another),make sure that your doctor knows about all food and drug allergies, all current prescriptions you are taking, over-the-counter drugs used, and vitamins/herbs/supplements being taken.
When obtaining drug information and making treatment decisions remember online drug websites can be useful for general information, but some are more reliable than others.
If you can not afford the prescriptions given to you, let your practitioner know as they may have samples for you to try. There are many sites on the Internet that offer free or reduced rate medications for US citizens who qualify. Many pharmaceutical manufacturers offer medication assistance programs as well.
See Medication Treatment Options for Trigeminal Neuralgia chart for specific details on medications used to treat trigeminal neuralgia.
