Transcript:  What is atlas orthogonal chiropractic care?

Atlas orthogonal chiropractic is a very precise and gentle technique designed by Roy W. Sweat in 1981.  It is based on adjusting the atlas, which is the top bone in the spine.  Orthogonal comes from 90 degrees from the Greek.  What we are talking about is the head directly on top of the cervical spine and the atlas perpendicular.

Now what happens is because the head sits on top of the atlas, kind of like a cup and a saucer, when the atlas moves out of position, it rise up the skull.  The head tilts.  When that happens, our brain has to be able to keep its balance centers even with the horizon so our eyes and ears need to stay that way.  Consequently what happens is instead of being like this, our body shifts.  We end up walking around with a high shoulder, a high hip, a short leg, and out of balance.  Consequently we end up with having problems concerning headaches, neck pain, mid-back pain, low back pain, and it even puts pressure on the arteries which bring blood to the brain which consequently is involved in why trigeminal neuralgia is so affected by this particular problem.

Now, when we adjust the atlas to bring it back, the head comes back and the body straightens up into a more neutral position.
