Transcript:  How to find a hypnosis provider

If you wanted to find someone who was an expert in hypnosis, how would you go about doing that?  First of all you need to make sure that they are licensed to practice either in their field of health or mental health.  And then you want someone who has gone the extra step of getting certification from the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis.  Then you also want to talk to the person and make sure you have a good match.  So whether it’s on the phone or face to face, you want to have a conversation with them where you get a sense of their experience.  It’s going to be unlikely that they will have worked directly with somebody who has trigeminal neuralgia but they may have experience with chronic pain.  And especially it would be great if you can find somebody who knows how to use hypnosis with neuropathic pain because they would be likely to be able to help you.  However, that said, keep in mind that all of those research studies that go back to the 1840’s, many of those studies were done by physicians who had no experience using hypnosis for trigeminal neuralgia and so they were able to use this technique, working in partnership with the patient to get the desired result.
