POSTHERPETIC NEURALGIA
Postherpetic neuralgia is chronic pain that starts after shingles (herpes zoster) in the area where the rash has healed. The severity of pain and duration vary. It may be described as constant, excruciating, burning, aching, dull or even boring pain. The skin may also be sensitive.
If throat pain is involved, the glossopharyngeal nerve can be affected. The trigeminal nerve can be implicated if there is pain in the ophthalmic (eye) area.
