Anesthesia Dolorosa

Generally, defined as severe pain felt in an area which is completely numb – a constant burning numbness and intermittent sharper pains may also occur.  Anesthesia Dolorosa results from destruction of the nerve following physical trauma or as a complication of surgery--particularly after one of the destructive neurosurgical procedures (percutaneous or radiosurgery).  It can occur after one procedure or more commonly after multiple ones.
